About Us

APRASSA was founded in 1956 by six plastic surgeons and has grown now to include the vast majority of registered plastic surgeons in South Africa. Current membership = 176.

To become a full member of APRASSA, a plastic surgeon needs to be proposed for membership and then approved by the members.

The objects for which the Association was established are:

  • To promote the safe practice of plastic surgery;
  • To define and establish relationships amongst plastic surgeons and between plastic surgeons and hospitals, public and private institutions, government authorities, the medical profession, generally and publicly;
  • To promote the professional and legitimate interests of plastic surgery;
  • To promote all matters related to the realisation of the foregoing objects or any one of them.

Contravention of APRASSA's code of ethics, after due process, may result in suspension of membership.

APRASSA thus maintains high standards of Plastic Surgery in SA. We run an annual congress, workshops, journal clubs, educational and mentorship programs. We liaise with medical aids, the health professions council of SA, hospital associations and other medical bodies.

APRASSA undertakes to attain and maintain high professional and ethical standards.
