Dr Mark van der Velde completed both his Undergraduate Studies and Postgraduate Fellowship (2005) at the University of Cape Town. Since then he continues to hold Consultant Positions in both State and Private Practices. A Senior Lecturer at UCT and Red Cross Children's Hospital, he focuses his state time on Congenital Hand Surgery and led the team who performed the first South African Congenital Microvascular Toe transfer in a Paediatric Congenital Hand patient. His presentation won gold at the 2018 APRASSA congress.
He is an examiner For The College of Medicine of South Africa. He is a long-standing member of APRASSA, SASSH and ISAPS. He has a passion for Hand Surgery, attending several World Congresses. Dr van der Velde's Cosmetic Surgery interests are broad with special interests in Calf and Buttock augmentation. After many years he continues to serve as Chairman of the Mediclinic Clinical Hospital Committee and is Clinical Head of The Cosmetic Surgery Institute in Cape Town.
