THIGH LIFT
A thigh lift improves the appearance of the upper legs. Any thigh lift procedure aims to reduce extra fat and skin in the thigh region. Various thigh lift procedures target the patient's inner or outer thighs.
Procedure
A thigh lift refers to a variety of operations that remove skin and fat from the upper leg (thigh) area to improve contours by removing bulk and loose soft tissues.
Two to four and a half hours, depending on the amount of tissue to be removed. Usually requires at least one position change and re-prepping and draping as patients are switched from front to back or vice versa.
The anaesthesia can be general or local with sedation.
Both options are possible.
The most common side effect is wound breakdown at the intersection of suture lines in the groin because of an excessive stretch of the tight closure caused by patient movement. Widened scars can also occur because of tension in these areas.
Similar to risks associated with any surgery, including infection, hematoma and fluid collection. Pulmonary embolism is a remote possibility.
A thigh lift requires three to four weeks of restricted movement, including no spreading of the legs or excessive flexion. This procedure is best done in colder months of the year because special postoperative garment wear for support is important. After any thigh lift procedure, the surgeon will provide specific postoperative instructions on how to care for wounds and which medications to take.
Thigh lift surgery is generally well tolerated and appreciated by patients. Results of a thigh lift are long-term provided the patient's weight remains stable.
